Ronald Gacayan Jr., known by his stage name Racayan, is a record producer and writer from San Francisco, CA.
Music was around Ronald heavily growing up. He was exposed to 90s R&B and Hip-Hop from his older cousins, where he would steal all their cassette tapes and just zone out. Ronald kept to his self a lot and was relatively quiet when he was young; music and writing poetry was his main source of expression.
Ronald got into beat making when he was 12 years old. He was introduced to it once he got detention in the 7th grade, where it was mandatory for him to partake in an after school program called Beacon. The program had a bunch of different creative clubs, and each kid had to chose one to participate in, so Ronald chose the DJ club; where he learned how to create on Fruity Loops (FL Studios). What started as a hobby turned into his passion and he wanted to take his craft seriously.
Shortly after obtaining a bachelors in Sound Engineering, he began working with Bay Area based Hip-Hop group Blackalicious as a stage director and engineer. Working under Blackalicious' producer Chief Xcel, Ronald was exposed to the ins and outs of the music industry. Whether it's working with Grammy-nominated artists such as Ledisi, Vincent Segal and Bosko Kante in the studio, to being in meetings with various A&Rs and Label executives, or touring the world and working music festivals from Glastonbury and Clockenflap, Ronald has seen it all. During his time with Blackalicious, Ronald began to grow as a producer and developed the moniker "Racayan" while he was on tour in France.
After his time with Blackalicious, Racayan moved to Los Angeles to further pursue his dreams after being convinced from a couple of his mentors; music producer Bedrock (Tyga, Iggy Azelia, Goapele, YK Osiris) and mix engineer Erik Madrid (Khalid, A$AP Rocky, Demi Lovato, Kehlani). Once he arrived in LA, Racayan worked closely with Bedrock where he furthered his skills as a musician producer.
Racayan has releases singles "Deep End" and "Believe in Us" as well as projects "Cathartic" and SMMR LVR's 1&2.
